Art in Bloom

Inspired by the “Art in Bloom” flower Show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, members of the Lakeside Garden Club collaborate with Gallery 302 artists to mount their own version of the popular exhibit. It usually takes place during the first weekend – Friday and Saturday – in August. The 2015 show marked ten years of production at the Main St. gallery. At that time, a flower-bedecked sports car was replaced by a flowery bicycle parked in front as a landmark to guide visitors.

In late July, ten pieces of art in the gallery are selected from various media including paintings, jewelry, pottery, woodwork, and other 3-D art to be the inspiration for members’ floral design skills. Members’ gardens are in their prime at this time, which makes the show an exceptionally beautiful display of color.

An impartial artist judges the arrangements as follows: Best Use of Color, Best Use of Texture, and Best Interpretation of the Art. During the two-day show, visitors are urged to vote for their favorite flower arrangement. The one receiving the most votes receives The People’s Choice Award.

During the brief show, a monthly “First Friday” evening reception is held by the gallery artists. A Saturday morning “tea party”, presented by the garden club, draws kids who make simple art and answer questions in a scavenger hunt for prizes. Dual goals are also met: Local gardeners can join the Club, and the gallery makes more sales than usual. However the event is enjoyed by people of all ages and sexes during both days and is free.
Every year it becomes more popular and draws larger crowds! Come join us and invite your friends!
