
Fantastical Fishes and Underwater Realms
with Watercolor

Dates: June 26 (Thursday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Through hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations, young artists will explore underwater creatures and their habitats while learning the basics of watercolor painting. By the end of class, students will understand topics like: How watercolor pigment behaves with water; How to use wet-on-wet watercolor techniques; and How to use other art mediums to enhance their watercolor paintings. Each artist will take home a unique watercolor scene they painted.
Skill Level: Ages 6-11 yrs old
Supplies: Student may bring a snack. Gallery will provide water, Students should bring a 8 x10 picture of their chosen fish or underwater creature to paint plus 3 cool facts about their creature like: where does it live? what does it eat? and where does it hang out?

Cost: $45 per student, 7 student class limit.​​​ Cost of class includes all paint related supplies.

"Don't let this one get away" workshop

Dates: 2 seasons
July 10 (Thursday), 1 pm - 4 pm and
July 24 (Thursday) 1pm - 4 pm

Description: This workshop will be conducted in 2 sessions. Children will learn about and use techniques to hand build with clay, and apply pottery glazes in different colors to create a beautiful and durable three dimensional work of art. Along the way, we'll discuss the basic process of creating pottery from raw clay and adding decorative elements, through bisque firing, applying glazes and glaze firing. They will also learn a little bit about pottery through the ages, and look at contemporary artists' work on display in the gallery.
Skill Level: Ages 6-11 yrs old
Supplies: Student may bring a snack. Gallery will provide water, all materials for class will be provided by instructor. This activity can be messy, so please wear old clothes that can get dirty, or bring an apron and a smock.

Exploring Pliers and Hammers for making jewelry

Dates: July 31 (Thursday), 1 pm - 3:30 pm

Description: Exploring the use of pliers nd hammers for basic copper jewelry making. Learn to mark and shape flat and wire copper. Take home a pendant.
Skill Level: Ages 6-11 yrs old
Supplies: Student may bring a snack. Gallery will provide water. All supplies will be provided by the instructor and included in the cost

"Catch of the Day" workshop

Dates: August 7 (Thursday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Children will learn about and use techniques to create a mixed media collage. There will be a variety of papers, paints and art supplies available to use for cutting and adhering, drawing, painting and assemblage on heavy board to create a unique art piece. They will learn a little about early artists such as Matisse and Picasso, who were the first to use collage in their work, as well as look at some contemporary collage artists' work. They'll also be able to see work done by gallery artists using collage.
If time permits, they will work together on a larger collaborative piece which will be shown in the gallery. We would like to display their individual pieces in the Gallery for the Gala Event, after which they can pick them up to display proudly at home!

Acrylic Painting
"Under the Sea"

Dates: August 14 (Thursday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Young artists will create an "atmospheric" painting of sea life bringing the glow of the sunshine to the bottom of the sea. Topics to be covered will include: composition, creating depth and light, tints, shade and blending. Dry brush techniques will be introduced.

Skill Level: Ages 6-11 yrs old

Supplies: Student may bring a snack. Gallery will provide water, Students should wear clothes that will get painted, or bring a smock. Acrylic paint is water based. Instructor will provide painting supplies, covered in the cost of the class.

"Whooo's Coming" Painting workshop

Dates: September 20 (Saturday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Children will learn a little about different types of owls found in New England, their habits and anatomy, and how to draw and paint them. We'll complete an acrylic painting on canvas while learning about drawing birds, color mixing, tints and shades, and brush strokes used to paint birds in acrylic. If time permits, we will also take a look at some of the paintings done by exhibiting artists in the Gallery.
